The Swamp Walker Void Intercept Battle is the stepping stone to whether you can beat the campaign in The First Descendant. The boss is part of the campaign missions and before the Fortress region. It’ll test your Descendant’s DPS and survivability. Knowing the boss’s mechanics is mandatory at this point. Here’s how to beat the Swamp Walker in The First Descendant.
Swamp Walker Boss Guide – The First Descendant
Swamp Walker is a crab-looking Colossi, and it is the 2nd to the last boss in normal mode, right before facing one of the hardest Void Intercept Battle bosses, the Hanged Man. The Swamp Walker is weak to one of the strongest Descendants in the game, Bunny. Lightning-based characters will love this fight because the Swamp Walker’s hitbox and weak points are larger compared to other bosses.
Even Bunny’s wave-clear Tesla Coil build will work here, even if it is quite weak against a single-target fight. The boss has Toxic resistance, and most players will have unlocked Freyna at this point in the campaign. Avoid using her unless you have some overpowered party members. However, it could still work if your weapons are strong enough.
Swamp Walker Boss Mechanics in The First Descendant
The Swamp Walker has three distinct basic attacks:
- A Gattling gun on two of its claws targeting one party member.
- A charged-up toxic ball that targets only one party member.
- A Homing missile attacks from its head, attacking one party member.
These attacks are easy to dodge, but if you aren’t used to dodging yet, you can solely focus on running until it targets somebody else.
Apart from its basic attacks, the Swamp Walker also unleashes a toxic gas around itself, damaging all players and applying a toxic debuff to everyone hit by the gas.
All these attacks are easy to dodge, but once it activates its immune phase, things will get a bit harder. At some point in the fight, Swamp Walker will become immune and spawn vials on each of its six legs. The vial is close to the joint, which is easy to hit, but you need to get the correct angle to see it clearly.
Since the Swamp Walker rotates frequently upon changing targets, some vials might be hard to hit and cause other players to keep circling around. The strategy is to stick together and destroy the vials one by one. If there are four party members, you can split into duos to destroy the vials faster. By sticking together, the Swamp Walker won’t move around as much, giving everyone ample time to destroy each vial and end the immunity phase.
Getting past this immune phase is crucial because, at this point in the campaign, not everyone has the best weapon or build for DPS. Time is of the essence, and your party might go through 3 or 4 immunity phases. You only have 10 minutes to beat the Swamp Walker. If the time window becomes tight, everyone should start to play more aggressively.
You can upgrade some modules or enhance some weapons to bridge the damage gap if you are still having trouble.
