How to Disable TAA in XDefiant on PC

Add more AA options Ubisoft!

XDefiant’s PC version runs quite well on various PC configurations, and there are plenty of settings to adjust. That said, the game has forced TAA by default, and there aren’t any other anti-aliasing options. While it isn’t the worst implementation of TAA I’ve seen, it’s understandable for some users to want to disable it to reduce the blur it can cause. If you’re one of those players, here is how to disable TAA in XDefiant.

Disable TAA in XDefiant

To disable the TAA setting in XDefiant, all you have to do is set the value of taa to 0 in the game’s configuration file.

  • First, open Windows Run by hitting the Windows and R keys together
  • Enter the following address, and pressĀ OK
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\XDefiant\
  • Here, open the bc_gfx_settings_unauthenticated.cfg file using a text editor like Notepad or Notepad++
  • Scroll to the bottom, and change the value of taa to 0 from 4.
  • 0 completely disables TAA, while 1-4 are the levels of TAA quality, 4 being the highest and default
  • Save the file (Ctrl + S) and exit out
  • Now, right-click on the file, and select Properties
  • Make sure the Read-only option is checked, otherwise the game will overwrite the file once you launch it

The next time you launch XDefiant, TAA will be completely disabled in the game.

Comparison Screenshots

The following screenshots show a subtle difference between TAA enabled and disabled. It’s more prominent in action. We have uploaded this comparison on Imgsli as well, for a better look at the difference in the far detail.

Restore TAA

If you wish to restore the TAA implementation, follow the steps above, and set the value of the “taa” variable to anything between 1 to 4. Make sure you uncheck the Read-Only option before editing the file.

We really hope that the developers add more anti-aliasing options instead of just TAA. XDefiant doesn’t have any upscalers like DLSS, FSR, or XeSS, but it’s not the most demanding game either.
