Super Smash Bros. Adds Character Customization, Removes Story Mode

Super Smash Bros. is moving right along in its development for 3DS and Wii U, and today, creator Masahiro Sakurai explained a couple of things fans will definitely want to make note of.

First off, Super Smash Bros. will add character customization. Although no other details were revealed about the mode, this is likely to include the change of outfits and adding secondary items, such as hats or helmets, to an existing character.

Secondly, and probably more importantly to some people, the sequel won’t have any cutscenes or a story mode, which was a highly popular feature in Brawl.  When asked why this would be the case, Sakurai explained, “I felt if players saw the cutscenes outside of the game, they would no longer serve as rewards for playing the game, so I’ve decided against having them.”  However, the 3DS version of the game will have a mode that will “act as a separate mode from the standard versus play.”

Super Smash Bros. is set for release sometime in 2014.
