When it was first announced in 2011, Dragon’s Crown intrigued us to no end with its combination of the best elements of side-scrolling beat-em-ups from arcade yesteryear with the bold hand-drawn art style of the developers at Vanillaware and cool role-playing elements that would keep you coming back for more.  Atlus didn’t really have many details about the game’s release date…until now that is.

The publisher has confirmed that the game will launch exclusively for PlayStation 3 and PS Vita on August 6th.  The PS3 version will set you back $49.99, while the Vita version will be $39.99.  Sadly, the title is not Cross-Buy compatible – though Cross-Play could still be an option.

We’ll be giving this one a closer look in the months ahead, talking about the various characters that are included and why it has that four-player appeal that worked so well in games like Dungeons & Dragons Collection and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Arcade Game.  We did mention it was Vanillaware, right?  Those guys can do no wrong.

Look for a strategic preview soon!
