There is indeed a Dipplin evolution in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet The Indigo Disk: Hydrapple. This good apple dragon shares its Typing with its pre-evolution, but only some of its Abilities. The following table shows Hydrapple’s basic information:

NameTypeAbility 1Ability 2Hidden Ability
HydrappleGrass / DragonSupersweet SyrupRegeneratorSticky Hold

If you evolve a Dipplin with Gluttony into Hydrapple, its Ability will become Regenerator instead. This will restore 33% of Hydrapple’s HP when you switch it out of battle. Its other ability, Supersweet Syrup, is Dipplin’s signature ability, and it will lower the evasion stat of all opponent Pokemon by one stage when entering battle. The hidden ability, Sticky Hold, will prevent Dipplin / Hydrapple’s held item from being taken by specific moves.

The following table displays Dipplin’s stats (left) compared to its evolution, Hydrapple’s, stats (right):

StatDipplinHydrapple
HP80106
Attack8080
Defense110110
Special Attack95120
Special Defense8080
Speed4044

Hydrapple maintains Dipplin’s defense capabilities while gaining a considerable boost to its special offense. If you found Dipplin a bit tough to use in The Teal Mask because it was more defensive than offensive, you might find Hydrapple more your style. It also excels as a support Pokemon, using its bevvy of signature moves and abilities to buff ally Pokemon and debuff opponent Pokemon.

Aside from preserving Dipplin’s signature move, Syrup Bomb, and signature ability, Supersweet Syrup, Hydrapple leans its own signature move, Fickle Beam. This move has a base power of 80, but has a 30% chance to take advantage of Hydrapple’s many heads and double the move’s power to 160. It may be a little inconsistent, but it ain’t bad.

How to Evolve Dipplin into Hydrapple

To evolve Dipplin into Hydrapple, you must level it up while it knows the move Dragon Cheer.

Dragon Cheer is available as a TM (TM226) which you get after defeating Drayton of the BB Elite Four. You’ll only receive one Dragon Cheer TM from Drayton, but you can craft more with the following recipe at any TM Machine:

MaterialAmount
League Points (LP)1,500
Tatsugiri Scales2
Lapras Teardrop2
Applin Juice1

Lapras is found in the Polar area of Blueberry Academy, while Tatsugiri is found in Casseroya Lake in Paldea. Applin can be found mostly in Tagtree Thicket in Paldea, and across Apple Hills and Mossfell Confluence in Kitakami.

How to Get Dipplin in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

Before you can get Dipplin’s evolution, you’ll obviously first need a Dipplin. But even before that, you’ll need to grab yourself an Applin, as you won’t find any Dipplin just wandering around in the wild. You can find and catch Applin practically all over Paldea, but you’ll have an even easier time finding one if you head over to Kitakami and run into the orchards known as Apple Hills up the main road. You’ll also find them around Mossfell Confluence, which is where you’ll need to go next to evolve Applin into Dipplin.

Applin has three branching evolutions, and to evolve it into Dipplin, you’ll need to expose it to a Syrupy Apple. You can grab a Syrupy Apple at a small food stand in Mossfell Confluence. This is in the southeastern-most area of Kitakami. From here, evolving Dipplin is only a matter of teaching it Dragon Cheer.

How Does Hydrapple Compare to Applin’s Other Evolutions?

Applin has a total of three evolutions: Flapple, Appletun, and Dipplin. Each one has their own unique stat spread, but Dipplin is the only one with its own separate evolution, Hydrapple. Here’s a table comparing the stats of all Applin evolutions:

StatFlappleAppletunDipplinHydrapple
HP7011080106
Attack110858080
Defense8080110110
Special Attack9510095120
Special Defense60808080
Speed70304044

No matter how you look at it, Hydrapple is certainly the best evolutionary path for Applin to take. Dipplin’s evolution makes Appletun completely pointless and Flapple only distinct for its higher Speed stat. It’s a wonder why Hydrapple exists at all without comparable evolutions for Flapple and Appletun as well. But perhaps we’ll see more distinct evolutions in the Applin family tree in the future.
