Like any good bit of content for Remnant 2, The Awakened King presents a number of choices that can have surprisingly different outcomes. Here’s whether you should kill the One True King or Nimue in Remnant 2.

Who Should You Kill in Remnant 2: The Awakened King?

Once you’ve worked your way through the Forlorn Coast location of Remnant 2’s The Awakened King and through the Palace of the One True King, you’ll come across the One True King himself. He’ll be annoyed to see you, though if you pretend to be his servant, he’ll be skeptical but willing to hear you out. Since everyone else around him has betrayed him, he wants you to prove your loyalty by killing Nimue, who is trapped nearby. At this point, you can fight him or follow his orders.

Like many other choices in Remnant 2, this has less to do with an impact on the story and more on the rewards you’ll get for each choice. As such, I’ll explain what happens and the rewards you’ll get below.

Killing the One True King

If you choose to defy the One True King, you’ll be put into a boss battle against him, as he believes you’re just another traitor. Once he dies, he’ll drop a material that can be traded into Ava McCabe at Ward 13 to craft the Monarch Long Gun. This weapon comes with the innate Mod Chain of Command, which lets you launch a Harpoon into the enemy, causing your bullets to become homing and deal reduced damage, but build Influence. Building enough Influence grants you 20% increased Damage and infinite ammo reserves. This effect lasts 20 seconds.

Alternatively, you can also destroy the One True King’s hammer during the fight before killing him. This will drop a material which, when given to Ava, will reward you with the Wrathbringer Melee Weapon. This weapon has the innate mod Awakening, which grants additional Melee Damage upon taking damage.

If you spoke to Nimue before speaking to the One True King, you can return to her and earn the Jewel of the Beholden Ring, which increases Mod Damage by 15% for 10 seconds after using your Relic.

Killing Nimue

If you choose to do the One True King’s bidding, you’ll visit Nimue who will go down without fighting back (though she doesn’t have much choice, since she’s chained up). When you kill her, she’ll drop the Broken Heart Relic. This Relic, on use, sets your current health to 50% of your Max Health. It can also be used twice as fast as a normal Relic.

Once you return to the One True King, he’ll thank you before deciding that you should die as well, initiating the usual boss fight. Killing him won’t give any new rewards, but it is a nice way to get that Relic should you want it.

With those both laid out, I’d argue that killing the One True King and sparing Nimue is the better choice. The ring is much more useful, and you’re able to get straight to the point as an added bonus.
