Will MW2 Guns and Operators Carry Over to Modern Warfare 3? Answered

Take your blueprints with you

There are tons of weapons and Operator cosmetics you can purchase or unlock in MW2, but if you’ve played the last few Call of Duty games, you may be used to cosmetics sticking to one title. However, Modern Warfare 3 is set to release directly after MW2, and for the first time your year of cosmetics won’t be a waste. Will MW2 Weapons & Operator Skins Transfer to MW3?

The short answer is yes, all of your guns and Operators from MW2 will carry over to Modern Warfare 3. Every single weapon released over the course of 2023 and any cosmetic released in the shop will be available once again as soon as MW3 launches in November. That means we will have one of the largest selections of weapons we’ve ever seen in a mainline Call of Duty game.

This program is called “Carry Forward” and it’s the first time that the cosmetics we collected over the course of a year will remain for at least one more. In the past, each COD title would be developed by a different studio under a separate franchise name like Black Ops. Because Modern Warfare 3 is the next title in a very similar version of the MW engine, it makes it realistic to carry over your items.

Now keep in mind that there are some exceptions to the rule. Some vehicle cosmetics have already been noted as items that won’t return in MW3. Vehicles tend to change each year in Warzone so it’s no surprise that a new rotation would appear. Unfortunately, that means some skins won’t return.

After the next year of Modern Warfare 3 comes to a close, it’s unlikely that your guns and Operators will carry forward again. But if this current system is successful, you should expect to see a back-to-back franchise release again.
