Two worlds in one is what Lords of the Fallen is all about, and if you want to get anywhere in the game, you need to enter Umbral. This realm is an underlying mirror dimension of Axiom and luckily for us, entering the realm is easy with the right lantern to go along. Here’s how to enter Umbral in Lords of the Fallen.

Lords of the Fallen: How to Enter Umbral

You can enter Umbral by lifting your Umbral Lantern and then use the “Rift to Umbral” ability with “square/X” on a controller or “left ctrl + Q” on a keyboard. As soon as Lords of the Fallen begins, you are given the lantern, so you don’t need to go looking for any special items. However, using the item can feel clunky at first.

At the bottom left of the screen, you can see the toggle for your ranged weapons and your lamp. Pressing down on the D-Pad or tapping “1” on your keyboard will switch to your lantern. You can then hold “L2/LT” to raise the lantern in front of your face. From here there are a few different actions you can take.

To enter Umbral, you want to hold “Square/X” or “Left Ctrl + Q” for a couple of seconds. This initiates a brief animation where the world around you shifts into Umbral. I tested the animation in combat a few times as well and you should be able to rift without taking any outside damage. Once you’re in Umbral though, you can’t just leave.

Inside the Umbreal dimension, you have to find a smaller Vestige that pulls you from the realm. These small statues are the most reliable way to leave, but you can also use standard Vestige points to rest and reset the world. When you’re back in Axiom you can always use the same rift function to go back to Umbral.

Before you get too far, make sure you know how to save in Lords of the Fallen as well.
