Should You Let Omeluum Examine You in Baldur’s Gate 3? – Answered

I guess not all Mindflayers are bad?

When you first meet the Mindflayer in the Underdark, you might find yourself hesitant to let its tentacles anywhere near you. But his Hobgoblin friend seems to have full faith in him. So, should you let Omeluum examine you in Baldur’s Gate 3?

After your rough meeting with the Mindflayers on the Nautoloid, you’d be forgiven for being a little wary of Omeluum. But letting him examine you has no negative consequences and can net you a ring if you succeed against a few rolls.

If you agree to let Omeluum examine you, he’ll probe your mind and examine your tadpole. Your tadpole will then grow, causing immense pain, but do no permanent damage. But Omeluum will also be unsuccessful at removing it. Instead, he’ll tell you it’s somehow being kept in stasis. We can thank the Artifact for that.

He’ll tell you that he can negate the magic protecting it, but to do he’ll need Tongue of Madness and Timmask Spores. Both can be found in the Arcane Tower on the second floor. The Tongue of Madness can also be found in the back Arcane Tower Garden. Timmask Spores can also be found at X: 137, Y: -121. Once they explode, run through them to gather the spores.

If you accidentally extracted these ingredients, you can possibly buy them at the merchants in Myconoid Colony. But one last Tongue of Madness can also be found in Balthazar’s Lab in Moonrise Tower.

Once you’ve brought all the ingredients to Omeluum, he’ll make a potion. Drink it, and you’ll need to succeed a saving throw of either Wisdom or Intelligence, rolling at least a 10.

This won’t help in the least. But for your trouble, he’ll tell you he can offer you a ring that will help ward off the effects of Mindflayer mind control. But he’ll only do so if you offer him something in return.

You can trade for it, and he’ll accept less than 500 gold for it. Or you can tell him about the Nautoloid in detail. Which is free, but will require you to past a performance check.

Once you do this, you’ll get the Ring of Mind-Shielding.

How to Find Omeluum in Baldur’s Gate 3

I went an entire playthrough without meeting Omeluum, and I’m sure many others missed Omeluum, too. To find this illithid, you’ll need to tell Blurg, the hobgoblin merchant in the Myconoid Colony, that you have a Mindflayer tadpole in your head.

When Blurg then asks you to elaborate, you’ll need to tell him the whole story. He’ll then summon Omeluum, who will stroll onto the scene without a disguise in sight. I guess the Myconoid don’t really care, since they don’t have a standard mind to chew on.
