RuneScape players can finally breathe a sigh of relief as Jagex has confirmed the return of Daily Challenges to the game, and the date is quickly approaching. In the latest news piece, Jagex stated that Daily Challenges would be reintroduced into RuneScape next week on October 9th, 2023.

On top of this, they are expected to work exactly as they did before. Which is great, as they worked perfectly. They were something which players could choose to interact with, or not! The tasks did not take long to complete, and you could also cherry pick which skills you wished to disable once you have mastered them.

Firstly, Daily Challenges will be back next week on the 9th. Daily Challenges will work just as they used to – including Keys, Lamps and Streak rewards. Lamps will be removed from Daily Missions alongside this change, given their introduction was a holdover until we could reintroduce the Daily Challenge system.

Jagex, October 2023.

It never made sense for a company who stated that they want to reduce FOMO to chance a daily system from one which can be done in five to ten minutes, to once which will take forty minutes on average to complete. So, it feels good to know that soon we will be back to where we should be.

The only change is to Hero Pass, where Lamps will be removed from Daily Missions, and returned to Daily Challenges. This was just a temporary fix in the interim whilst players waited for the return of Daily Challenges. And so, it is not something that will be missed as the majority of players are eager to see the game return to its pre–Hero Pass state, or as much as Jagex is willing to allow it to.

With Daily Challenges returning, the changes to the Hero Pass have already taken place, and the upcoming larger changes that will hopefully take place after the in-depth player feedback, there’s a sliver of hope that Jagex will change course, albeit it slightly. It is clear to anyone that the uproar in the community after the release of Hero Pass was something that had been bubbling under the surface for quite some time.

The bungled and unnecessary introduction of Hero Pass was the catalyst for many players to grow tired of the player base being constantly inundated with microtransactions. There may be hope that Jagex will take this lesson to heart, as well as the feedback from the six-week long Hero Pass consultation process and change for the better.

On the other hand, we all know that the developers passionate about the game, and those who are eager to milk the game dry to line their pockets are not the same people. So, all the community can do is wait with bated breath from here on out. At least, the return of Daily Challenges is a step in the right direction.
