Insomniac Games are masters of helping gamers of all skill levels and accessibility levels jump into their games, and their efforts during the PlayStation 5 generation are second to none. From their work on Ratchet & Clank: A Rift Apart to the upcoming Spider-Man 2 release, gamers will have the opportunity to make the experience theirs with a plethora of options available to make the game playable for everyone.
As showcased in a PlayStation Blog post by Michele Zorrilla and Sam Schaffel, a variety of different options will be available to allow gamers from all walks of life to enjoy their time in the virtual New York presented to them in Spider-Man 2. From a toggle on Game Speed to slow down the action for proper reaction time in hectic situations to Gameplay settings that will allow you to tweak the difficulty of every portion of the game, Spider-Man 2 is shaping up to be one of the most accessible games on the market. The options you can tweak are listed below:
- Challenge Level Modifiers
- Gameplay Assists
- Shortcuts
- Game Speed
- Audio Frequency Controls
- & More To Come
There will also be support for the upcoming PlayStation Access controller, allowing players with different disabilities to jump into the game with added assistance. If you’re unfamiliar with the PlayStation Access controller, this YouTube Video posted by Sony will help detail exactly what the Access is meant for.
Spider-Man 2 is already one of the most hyped games of the year, and these accessibility options will open up the game for everyone to enjoy. The best part is it doesn’t stop here, either. Post Launch, there will be more Accessibility options added to the game, with these features already planned for a December 2023 launch:
- Audio Descriptions
- Screen Reader
- Captions
- & More To Come
Between all of these Accessibility options and all of the general gameplay footage that has been shown off, players now know what to expect when Spider-Man 2 hits store shelves in October. Knowing what you can expect before you jump in is important, and it looks like Insomniac is aiming to push the Accessibility boundaries through the roof with this one.
