Tekken 8 Teaches You How to Learn from Mistakes with New Interactive Replays

Stop, rewind, and take full control over your character in each replay.

Tekken 8 will allow players direct control of their characters for 10 seconds within each of their recorded replays, teaching them tips and allowing them to practice different scenarios that could have happened within a fight. The upcoming feature was revealed during the Tekken 8 showcase at the Tokyo Games Show 2023.

For those seeking to improve their fighting skills and learn from their mistakes, the new feature will give players a chance to review previous fights, offering tips and strategies that could have been executed while allowing 10 seconds of total control to practice in real-time. If a combo, for instance, could have been extended for increased damage, or a blocked move went unpunished, the interactive replays will inform and prepare the player to be better equipped for their next fight.

Tekken 8 producer Michael Murray shared the Tokyo Game Show stage with game director Kohei Ikeda and executive producer Katsuhiro Harada to break down various new features we can expect in the upcoming fighting game. “During the replay, there’s prompts when they find something you can improve on”, says Murray, “you can actually take control in that particular instance and see if you could have done something better”.

It’s not the first time we’ve seen a feature like this in a fighting game, as Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus R first introduced the ability to take control of replays, but it’s certainly appreciated just as much. Fighting game fans are already sounding off on X (Twitter) to praise the upcoming title.
