The Big Debate: Who Will Win Game of the Year for 2023? (Screenshot by Prima Games)

Starfield and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 have created a mass debate and amplified the Console Wars blaze because they are both exclusives and are dropping a month apart from each other. First up and dropping on September 6 is the long-awaited Xbox Series X/S exclusive, Starfield.

Exactly 44 days later, on October 20, the PS5 exclusive Spider-Man 2 will launch. These two games are poised to be the most significant games for their respective consoles and are predicted to be top contenders for 2023’s Game of the Year. Following both gameplay reveals, things on social media, especially Twitter (or X after the name and logo change), have heated up, to say the least.

Comparisons such as sales, which game runs smoother, which game offers more playing time, who had the best buildup, and much more have been thrown around. Below are the ones that stood out the most for me.

A Tweet Referring to How PlayStation Fans Are More Concerned About Starfield (Screenshot by Prima Games)

Above, X user @BeastofTruth used the scene from Toy Story, when Andy was ready to trade Woody in for a new toy. This is a big dig at PlayStation fans. The post refers to how PS players are more concerned about Starfield than Spider-Man 2 in the buildup, displaying how their exclusive PS5 title will be traded in for Starfield because it will be a better gaming experience. Of course, this is just internet conjecture.

Since the announcement and the noticeable drop in sales for the Xbox Series generation, the PS5 and its loyal players have had the upper hand—gloating about the success of the PS5, if you will. However, loyal Xbox players believe that it is all about to change and that their flagship title will help them reach the stars and be the reason they overtake their biggest rivals—so much confidence in one post. First hit goes to Xbox. Xbox: 1; PS: 0.

The Starfield Wrap vs. the PS5 Spider-Man 2 Limited Edition Console

The Wrap vs. the PS5 Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 limited edition console. Xbox made it clear there would be no exclusive console like its counterpart’s Web-Slinger edition, but gave the fans a Wrap worthy of day-one purchases. The only question left is: Who did it better?

Looking at the banter side of the wrap and the console exclusive, these have to be two of the funniest Posts out there. They had me in stitches. What are you here for? A Series Wrap or a PS5 Dinner Plate Taco? A hard draw, but deserving of two points each! Xbox: 3; PS: 2.

The most considerable debate in the Starfield vs. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 saga is which game looks the cleanest and most realistic, debating what will run better at 30 FPS. Added to this specific point, Starfield is a PC and Series X/S exclusive and will not be launching on the Xbox One (it will only be playable on the Xbox One via Game Pass), ascertaining that both juggernauts are bringing their A-game with their exclusives this year.

The Beast of Truth has it out for the PlayStation folks. Here, the X user has referred to three PS5 exclusives as The Three Stooges, one of the Stooges being Spider-Man 2, while a loyal companion hails 30 FPS. Pow! Xbox garners another point in the Console Wars. Xbox: 4; PS: 2.

PS fans never take anything sitting down, and they pulled out the 60 FPS card. To counter Microsoft and Bethesda, Sony and Insomniac Games have stated that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will be playable at 60 FPS from launch day. As per Starfield’s developers, the game will be locked at 30 FPS for consoles. Below is the PS response: one that hits Xbox with a low blow and hands two points to PlayStation. Xbox: 4; PS: 4.

With the score tied at 4-4, there’s nothing to separate the two. The two flagship titles have woken a demon that’s been resting for a while, and watching all of the battles and sparring unravel only builds the anticipation for both Starfield and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. If you’re not involved, sit back and enjoy the ride. If your gloves are on, which corner of the ring do you fight for?

The intensity of these Console Wars is welcomed, as long as it stays healthy with good fun and banter. It’s been a long time since you’ve felt the heat of the flames burning so hot or that you could cut the tension between the “Xbots” and “Ponys” with a knife.
