Baldur’s Gate 3: How to Free Hope in BG3

Orpheus isn't the only one locked away

One of the only kind souls you meet in the House of Hope is Hope herself, and she needs saving in Baldur’s Gate 3. If you want as much help as you can get against Raphael, then you will need to free her as soon as you can.

Where to Find Hope in Baldur’s Gate 3

Hope is not just a nebulous concept and recurring theme in BG3, but also a dwarf and the sister of Raphael’s assistant, Korilla Hearthflame. And Raphael has Hope imprisoned deep in his hellish abode, the House of Hope.

You can find where Hope is being held captive by going toward the Outer Portals room in the House of Hope and taking a right before the entrance, there you will find a hatch that leads to her prison, but this hatch will be locked initially. Until you have everything you need from the Archives and the Boudoir, you won’t be able to go down this way.

After searching the Archives and getting caught, Hope’s spirit guided me back to the hatch and we were able to find her true imprisoned body that way. But you can bypass all these steps by jumping down a level.

In the same area where you would find the hatch, you can jump over the edge. We suggest using Flight on your full party because there are some sentries waiting below. You will also need to get the Orphic Hammer before you can accomplish the rest, so don’t go down unless you have it.

How to Free Hope in Baldur’s Gate 3

To free Hope in Baldur’s Gate 3, you need to have the Orphic Hammer. For those of you who already have it, simply take the hammer to her prison and destroy the giant red crystals. We would suggest killing all the enemies in the area and then having your strongest character whack the crystals into dust. With that, Hope’s true form is returned and she will follow you for the time being in BG3.

If you are in the House of Hope without the hammer, that means you left it behind, or you didn’t accept Raphael’s deal. In that case, you need to get a pass from the Archivist to enter the Boudoir. With the pass, go back to the Boudoir and get a safe key from Haarlep. Then finish by moving the painting on the northwest side of the room.

Underneath the painting is the safe with the Orphic Hammer and the password for your contract. Now just head to the prison and free Hope from her chains in BG3.

What to Do After You Free Hope

Once you free Hope in BG3, she’ll follow you around as a temporary party member. Hope is a level 10 Cleric and will come in handy as a healer in the upcoming fight as you make your escape from the House of Hope. But more importantly, she has some unique actions.

Namely, Hope has access to the spell Revoke Guest Status. She can use it twice, and it will banish any creature except Raphael from the House of Hope. You can make serious use of this spell against Yurgir in the Raphael boss fight if you fail to recruit Yurgir to your cause.

Hope also has access to Divine Intervention, which does all kinds of helpful stuff, such as bequeathing Hope a legendary weapon. We don’t know if you can take the legendary weapon from Hope for further use, but it’s worth checking out—perhaps Command: Drop will do the trick.

After you free Hope from prison, you won’t take her very far. She’ll aid you in the fight against Raphael, but you can’t keep Hope in your party. Hope will choose to remain behind in Hell once all is said and done.

Free Hope in BG3, Summarized

To summarize, you can free Hope in BG3 by completing the following steps:

  • Enter the House of Hope.
  • Get the Orphic Hammer from the Archives.
  • Follow Hope to the hatch that leads to her Prison, or jump over the edge near the hatch.
  • Fight off the enemies in the prison.
  • Use the Orphic Hammer to smash the red crystals.
  • Bring Hope along with you as a temporary party member.
  • Escape the House of Hope.

That’s all you need to free Hope in BG3. With the House of Hope out of the way, find out if you should free Orpheus or not in Baldur’s Gate 3 before you start swinging the hammer anymore.
