As with many of the really incredible mounts in World of Warcraft, the Wavewhisker is a premium mount that comes included with a 6-month subscription bundle OR can be purchased on its own. Individually, it costs $25, but it’s included for “free” in the currently discounted $78, 6-month subscription plan.

If you don’t want to drop that kind of cash, there’s a chance it’ll appear in the Trading Post to be earned in-game, but that wouldn’t be for several years, if it happens at all.

The real kicker is that the Wondrous Wavewhisker is tied for the most-useful mount in the game. It grants 100% more ground speed, 310% max flying speed, AND increased swimming speed. The only other mount to currently grant all these bonuses is the Spectral Otter, which is the reward for collecting 500 mounts.

Does this mean the Wondrous Wavewhisker is pay-to-win? Ehhh.. that’s debatable. I can count on one hand the amount of times I needed to swim anywhere, let alone quickly. Even then, there are other mounts (that don’t also fly) that provide a bonus to swim speed, like the Brinedeep Bottom-Feeder or Fabious.

Still, all that aside it’s a nice addition to the discounted rate of a monthly subscription via the 6 or 12-month bundles. I won’t turn my nose up at little extras, even if they are thinly-veiled ploys to pump active subscriber numbers long-term.

One last tidbit – the community seems pretty convinced this is a tease at the next expansion, just as several bonus cash-shop mounts have been in the past (like the Ensorcelled Everwyrm before Shadowlands). Could the next expansion be sea-themed?
