The Sniffer is the mob that won the Minecraft Mob Vote 2022 with the overwhelming support of more than half of the players who participated in the voting process and cast their ballots. You could say that the community fell in love with the Sniffer at first sight. And now, that Sniffer has been introduced into Minecraft officially, with Patch 1.20 called “Trails and Tales”. If you are wondering where Sniffers spawn in Minecraft and how to find and get your first Sniffer, you’ve come to the right place.

How to Find Sniffer Eggs in Minecraft

You might be slightly disappointed to learn that you can’t just find a randomly-roaming Sniffer in the wild. In order for a Sniffer to get spawned, you need to find and hatch a Sniffer Egg.

The Sniffer Eggs can be found in the Warm Ocean biome. Get yourself a boat, we’re going off-shore.

Where to Find Sniffer Eggs in Minecraft

In the Warm Ocean biome, you will spot certain underwater structures (or ruins, if I may call them that). Around these structures, you will be looking for suspicious sand blocks. These are just slightly darker than the usual sand block (the difference is just a handful of pixels), so it might be hard to spot them at the start, but you will quickly get a hang of it once you see a couple of them. Here’s what you should bring on the quest to find the Sniffer Eggs:

  • adequate shield and sword to fight off the creepy monsters from the deep
  • potion for underwater breathing will greatly help you to stay underwater longer
  • potion for night vision (you will need one water bottle, one nether wart, and one golden carrot) will greatly help you to see stuff underwater

In order to reveal the Sniffer Egg from the Suspicious Sand, you will need to use a Brush. Archeology is a new mechanic in Minecraft, and the Brush will reveal stuff from the Suspicious Sand, and Suspicious Gravel. It won’t always be a Sniffer Egg, so it might take you time to find it. When you commence brushing the block, the edges of the item hidden underneath will slowly be revealed. If you haven’t made your own Brush yet, here’s how you can make a Brush in Minecraft:

How to Craft a Brush in Minecraft

Crafting a Brush in Minecraft is not a big trouble for an aspiring Archeologist! The recipe is very simple:

  • Feather (kill an adult chicken)
  • Copper Ingot (smelt some Copper Ore that you’ve dug up)
  • Stick (two wooden planks placed vertically)

Bring these materials to the Crafting Table and sort them vertically in the same order they are listed above, in the middle.
There you have it, now you can be a true Archeologist in Minecraft!
