Just when it seemed like the PlayStation Network was regaining footing from last year’s month-long outage (due to hacking), along comes more trouble.
Kotaku reported this morning that Anonymous, the hacking network who actually has its own Twitter feed at @YourAnonNews, has indicated it has a 50 gigabyte database of email accounts and passwords from Sony’s PlayStation Network, affecting ten million accounts. Most of these appear to be taken from northern Europe, with encrypted passwords, but it’s still enough to be a bit of concern for the company again.
Actually, upon further reviewing the story, it turns out that they got the Internet riled up for nothing, as the post actually shows a list that was taken back in March, well before Sony’s security precautions kicked in. So relax guys, your stuff is safe. Still, you might want to invest in a few PlayStation Network cards and keep your credit card stuff secure. Y’know, just in case.
