Gunpowder is essential for making things go boom in Minecraft, as well as creating a few potions and smaller firestarters in the game. Where to Get Gunpowder in Minecraft

Gunpowder is fundamentally an ingredient and cannot be crafted, but you can get it from various other sources. The first one you’ll probably come across is through defeating Creepers, as those bomb creatures themselves have a small chance of dropping the material. Similarly, certain monsters more associated with the mid-to-late game, more specifically Ghasts and Witches, also have a chance of dropping in. Witches may yield you six at once, and this can be increased if you kill them with a sword embued with the Looting enchantment.

If you’re having bad luck encountering those monsters or just don’t feel like fighting your way to getting some small resources, you also have a small chance of finding them by exploring dungeons, shipwrecks, woodland mansions, and desert temples. If you happen to pass by one of those randomly-spawned buildings, you can search for gunpowder inside its chests.

The chances of finding it inside regular dungeons and woodland mansions chests are 57.8%, while temple chests are a little bit higher at 59%. Sunken ships have the roughest chance with only 20.8%, so those are the last places you should go exclusively for gunpowder. The easiest way to get it is most certainly by hunting for Creepers at night as they are easily spawnable. Preferably away from your house or any other important building you’ve made to avoid a bigger disaster.
