How to Craft a Grindstone in Minecraft

Rise and grind, gamers.

Minecraft is all about grinding – whether it’s for precious ores and rocks, wood and plants, or experience orbs, you’ll quickly find that there’s always a reason to get to work. These diamonds aren’t gonna mine themselves, after all. That’s not what we’re talking about today, though. Did you think you’d catch us encouraging some ridiculous mindset on waking up at 4 AM and getting two workouts in before you’ve even poured a bowl of Cocoa Puffs? Hah, please, we haven’t seen the sunrise since elementary school. Anyway, here’s how to craft a Grindstone in Minecraft.

How to Craft a Grindstone in Minecraft

Grindstones are workstations in Minecraft that are used for repairing items and tools as well as removing enchantments from them. Because every tool in Minecraft has a finite amount of durability and enchantment slots, Grindstones can help you keep them repaired while tailoring magical effects to your exact needs.

To craft a Grindstone, you’ll need the following materials:

  • 2 Sticks
  • 2 Wooden Planks
  • 1 Stone Slab

Sticks are crafted by stacking two wooden planks in a vertical straight line.

Wooden Planks are crafted by simply placing any type of raw wood anywhere in your crafting window.

Stone Slabs are crafted by placing three stones in a horizontal straight line.

Arrange the materials as shown above, with the stone slab in between two sticks, and one wooden plank underneath each stick. This crafting recipe yields one Grindstone.

Once placed, interacting with the Grindstone will open up a new window, where select items can be placed within the two input tiles. By placing an enchanted item in the tile, a new non-enchanted item of the same type will be created in the output tile. Removing enchantments from items will also drop some experience orbs.

Additionally, placing two items (whether enchanted or not) of the same type in the input slots will yield a new non-enchanted version of that item with a durability equaling the sum of both input items, plus an additional 5% of the item’s maximum durability.

Lastly, the Grindstone acts as a Weaponsmith’s job site block, and will cause a default Villager to become a Weaponsmith once they interact with it.
