If you’re really eager though it’s possible to grab the game a couple of days early by pre-ordering.

Any obliging gamers will be treated to some exclusive in-game weapons, an in-game parrot (rather than a real one, which would be nice), and a soundtrack CD.

USA residents can grab the game come 23rd October, if you’re elsewhere then you’ll have to wait for another announcement to find out when you can begin legitimately talking like a pirate.

The swashbuckling MMOG has been in development for a while, since 2002 in fact, and beta testing has been apparently running since 2005. Flying Labs are calling it a “big fat slab of a game”, which sounds pretty good we’d say.

Play will incorporate economy, ship-on-ship action, swordfighting, roughly 1000 quests, 80 towns in a world available for conquering, pillaging, plundering other such naughty nautical notions.

There will be a much more public beta a little nearer the launch date.
